Haddad Toyota’s ‘Black Friday’ Sales Continues Through December 2nd

Berkshire County and Western MA shoppers love ‘Black Friday’ sales (have you seen the parking lots at Lee’s Prime Outlets or at the Berkshire Mall in Lanesboro?) but everyone can save on so much more than just tvs, jeans and jewelry this year.  Haddad Toyota has joined in on the holiday tradition with Toyota’s ‘Black 10 Days’ sale and if you’re looking for a great way to save on a new Toyota, you won’t want to miss it!

This year, every new 2013 Toyota Camry in stock is at a very special price – you can save a minimum of $4,000 off MSRP!  Haddad Toyota has nineteen 2013 Camrys in stock (at the time of this writing) in a variety of colors and options so you’re bound to find a Camry that’s just right for you.

What does Edmunds say about the 2013 Toyota Camry?  “Strong and fuel-efficient engines; comfortable and spacious backseat” and “continues the model’s long-standing record of reliability and low running costs and adds an improved interior, more expressive styling and, especially in SE trim, livelier driving. The 2013 Toyota Camry gets further polish with a few more standard features and upgraded interior materials.”

Every 2013 Toyota Camry features front-wheel drive, a six-speed automatic transmission and two engine choices –  and with Haddad Toyota’s ‘Black 10 Days’ sale – a price that’s at least $4k less than MSRP.

Come see us soon though.  Toyota’s ‘Black 10 Days’ sale ends December 2nd and Haddad Toyota’s special pricing on 2013 Camrys is only available while supplies last.

Guest Driving the 2014 Toyota Corolla

Just as the autumn chill started to settle over New England, I was handed the keys to a new car, for a week-long test drive with Haddad Toyota of Pittsfield, Mass. The goal was to give me access to one of Toyota’s newest models, the 2014 Toyota Corolla, and in turn the chance to share my experience here.

As a long-time Toyota driver – I drove a Toyota Tercel for 11 years before buying a new Scion xD in 2008 – I was already feeling confident about the new Corolla’s drivability. The Toyota Corolla has actually been on the road since the sixties, and has held the title of best-selling car in the world since 1997.

A focus on affordability, great gas mileage, and overall longevity seem to be the key factors at play, and Corollas have also been ‘on-trend’ cars throughout the years: in 1966, the model debuted with a state-of-the-art engine. In the 1970s, it was restyled to cater to performance, taking cues from the rally cars of the day. Just a decade later, the Corolla pioneered aerodynamic design and began to build its reputation as one of the most fuel-efficient cars in production.

This year, the 2014 Corolla has had another overhaul, this time sporting a sleek, chiseled look: tapered in the front and back with a sloped roof and a longer wheelbase, making for an expanded interior. At first blush, it’s both sharp and roomy… not to mention I’m a sucker for a moon roof.

The new look houses standard safety and comfort options including LED low-beam headlamps, eight airbags, Bluetooth® hands-free phone and audio-streaming connectivity, and a rear back-up camera. Every 2014 Corolla also has a display screen with Entune, a multimedia one-stop for music, directions, phone calls, restaurant recommendations, movie tickets, and more.

I set Entune up with the help of an associate at the dealership, creating an account on a desktop computer and downloading the app to my phone. I started playing with its many options the moment I got behind the wheel, but I was also pleased to see that the system won’tlet you play with its more involved features while you’re driving. Change the song? Sure. Browse for directions to the nearest sushi place? Not so much, and that’s a good thing.

Speaking of songs, the music options in the Corolla were the hardest to leave behind when I returned the car. I had a seemingly endless supply of music at my fingertips, sourced from satellite radio, terrestrial radio, Entune apps including Pandora, my own iPhone, and built-in CD player that will also play DVDs on the dash-screen, again when the car is parked. The six-speaker audio system makes for a sort of surround-sound feel, too, regardless of the audio source.

The Corolla’s many features and gadgets also proved to serve as extra incentive to go places. After using the keyless entry to get into the car (no more searching for your keys in the bottom of your purse!), the push-button engine start (just plain cool), and gathering a couple of traveling companions, I was off to a spate of fall offerings in western Massachusetts. Indeed, the Berkshires in autumn are an ideal testing ground for a new car… there are plenty of winding roads and rolling hills to get a feel for how the car handles, not to mention a countless number of sights to go see.

We keyed in directions to a comedy club and avoided traffic along the way using the real-time traffic map. We wove up and down Berkshire back roads, using the moon-roof to take artsy photos of fall foliage, and stopping off at a scenic outlook or two. We had dinner at our favorite Indian restaurant and bought movie tickets from the car on the way to the theater. We made new friends at fall festivals and farm stands and loaded the surprisingly huge trunk with pumpkins, cider donuts, early Christmas presents for friends and family, and other signs of the season.

Driving the 2014 Corolla is indeed smooth and comfortable, and I’d characterize the car’s overall look as hip but professional– not too flashy, but with the right amount of style cues to signal that this is more than a means to get from point A to point B.

There’s something to be said for form coupled with function; leather seats might be signs of luxury, but they’re nothing but a back-of-your-legs burn hazard in the hot summer months (or if you parked in a sunspot). The Corolla ’14 offers SofTex™ seats as an option, made of a woven plastic that breathes and reflects infrared rays better than other materials, keeping seats cool and soft. It’s also more environmentally friendly than leather, and both water- and stain-resistant; a big plus for anyone as spill prone as I am.

In the span of seven days, I adjusted to the Corolla to the point at which it felt completely natural, as though I’d been driving the car for months. The car’s technology is helpful, nonintrusive and fairly easy to learn how to use, and the fuel efficiency was proven to be up to Toyota’s usual standards; I only filled up once. Plus, as someone with a lot of ‘big stuff’ hobbies – visiting flea markets, constant redecorating, camping – I was impressed with the amount of space in this sedan. I assumed I would be at least a hatchback driver for the rest of my life…  now, I’m not so sure.
