What to Do When Your Car Breaks Down

what to do when your car breaks downSometimes unexpected things happen. Even if you keep up with your routine maintenance on your car, you may find yourself stranded on the side of the road in a car that won’t start.

Knowing what to do when your car breaks down can save you time and money, so remember these tips if you ever find yourself on the side of the freeway with engine troubles.

If you can pull over and off the road, do so, or park it in the middle of the street if you can’t, but either way turn on your hazard lights so other cars will know to go around you or switch lanes so they don’t get too close to you.

Next, call for help, preferably your roadside assistance provided either by your insurance or through your manufacturer, and tell them your location so they can come and give you a tow or try to help you fix the problem.

Also, don’t leave your car! Roadside services may take a while to show up, but you have to be with your car when they do, so even though it’s not ideal, you can’t have a friend come pick you up and wait for roadside assistance to show.

And finally, be wary of strangers. Police officers are one thing, but some good samaritans aren’t necessarily good.
